Definition: The concept of 'flow' was first studied by Positive Psychology researcher Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. Flow refers to a state of total absorption in a given activity, to the point where time seems to slow or stop, and self-consciousness is greatly diminished. This is a state of being completely engaged in something to the point of being in a near meditative state. It carries many of the benefits of meditation and mindfulness, leaving you much less stressed when you’re done. You can experience ‘flow’ when you’re doing creative activities that utilize your special strengths, like writing, drawing, and even gardening. Certain jobs lend themselves to flow, and these jobs tend to bring greater job satisfaction.
