Definition: This is a ‘shortcut’ of Progressive Muscle Relaxation that can be achieved with practice. After a time, rather than tensing and relaxing each group of muscles, you can begin to quickly relax your body from head to toe, as if someone were ‘pouring relaxation’ on your head and it were flowing down and covering your whole body. In time, Deep Muscle Relaxation can be accomplished in seconds, as opposed to the several minutes it takes to practice PMR.
