Poll of the Week: How Much Does The Holiday Season Stress You Out?

Sunday November 5, 2006
Well, it appears that the holiday season has begun! While the extra time with family and loved ones, elaborate meals, gift-giving occasions, and flurry of activity can be fun and heart-warming and exciting, the holiday season is well-known for causing stress! Being with difficult family members, spending money we don't have, eating too much (and the wrong food), and other stressful aspects of the holiday season can take their toll, and have some people exhausted by the end. How do you feel about this most unique time of year?

What aspect of the holiday season stresses you the most? (Or, if you feel no stress during this time of year, would you like to share your secrets with others?) Leave your comments here!

(1) Christine Farrell says:

I very firmly believe that the expectations placed on you by others – mainly, probably, family – are the single most stressful factor.
This may be followed very closely by the expectations you then put upon yourself based on these other expectations – whether real or imagined or hallucinated!
I find the only practical way to deal with it all is to try to convince myself that what I have done is (a) enough, (b) well good enough, (c) anyone who disagrees is beyond what I have been asked to or required to cope with .
This last is a difficult one, but persevere – your mind set will be theone in control . . . one day.

I feel the stress is finances. It costs so much this time of year in food, gas, gifts and parties. We turn down invitations and family gatherings, not because we don’t want to celebrate, we cannot afford to celebrate.

(3) Bob L. from New Mexico says:

Stress is an over rated product created by Doctors who want to push you onto pills. As well as the boys on Madison Avenue.Who create the advertisements for the pills! Just be thankful for what little you have. Or how much you have.Relish every minute you can spend time with a loved one, relative or friends. Even if you have none of these. Be greatful for just being alive. Reflect back on your life. Take the time to marvel at all of the things you have seen come to pass in your lifetime. Life’s too short to let stress take over your life and control it ! Can’t afford a present for someone you love at holiday time. Make one. Can’t do that. Give them a hug. Or write and tell them how much you love them. That cost’s you nothing.
Have a happy Holiday season, enjoy life. It’s precious and much too short.
