- I broke my pelvis in a car accident as a teenager, and was left with a large scar spanning my hip and hiney. When I asked my doctor if would go away, he called me 'vain' for being concerned about it, and told me I should just be happy to be alive. This was very hurtful--of COURSE I was happy to be alive, but what teenage girl wouldn't be curious and a little upset about a huge scar?
