Music Outreach

I've been involved in music outreaches at nursing and adult homes for many years. While I was in college, I truly believe that outreach was the only thing keeping me sane! Now, helping direct outreaches with the Institute for Music and Health , I have seen the same results in children - especially those with special needs. Music is a powerful force to breaking down internal and external social barriers.

Know What Their Issues Are

I'm always careful to ask my kids what's going on in their lives--not just with school work, but socially and emotionally. I ask what happened in their day, and I listen and remember, and help them deal with ongoing problems. I also watch carefully, in case there are issues they forget to bring up. I let them know I'm always here for them, for support, advice, or sometimes cookies.

More Play Time

We keep our kids so busy these days, sometimes they just need to be...kids! I try to factor in more time to just play with them, and let them play on their own. Play time is very important for balance and stress relief.
