Fast, Portable Stress Relief

Monday December 22, 2008
Stress is everywhere. Especially during the holiday season, it seems inescapable. And since so many of us are going to be out and about this week, either finishing our shopping, celebrating with family, or traveling to be away from home for the holidays, I thought we could all use some portable stress relievers.

These stress relief methods can't be taken be lost in an airport, left at the mall, or accidentally used up by your flaky cousin, and can be used anytime you need them. And, especially during this season, they'll probably be needed wherever you go! So, remember to relieve stress before it becomes a problem, so you can really enjoy the rest of the holiday season

Portable Stress Relief Resources from Elizabeth Scott

  • Guided Imagery for Relaxation
This technique is a lot like daydreaming. If you have a semi-private place where you can let your mind wander for a few minutes, such as an office with the door closed, or even a subway seat, you can try this simple and quick stress reliever.
  • Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR)
This is one of my favorite techniques! You can learn to quickly and easily relax every muscle in your body, relieving physical and mental tension.
  • Using Your iPod for Stress Relief
Listening to music or even stand-up comedy for a few minutes can do wonders on your state of mind. The music can help you clear your mind and the laughter can help you lighten up, release endorphins, and more.
  • Breathing Exercises
This is perhaps the simplest, easiest and most portable stress reliever. Learn it in minutes, practice it anywhere!
