How to Cope with Loneliness

Tuesday November 11, 2008
How often do you feel lonely?

Sometimes you can feel lonely in a crowd of people (if you don't feel connected to any of the people), or can feel completely at home in solitude (if you feel enough personal connections in your life in general); it just depends where you are in your life.

Loneliness can be a very stressful experience. Because social support carries so many benefits, and because loneliness carries some very real detriments, love and a sense of belonging are considered basic human needs.

The topic of loneliness--and what to do to cope--were raised in the Stress Management Forum recently, with some thoughtful suggestions from readers. I invite you to join the conversation! I'll also leave you with some resources on the topic of loneliness, in case you are feeling it right now.
