Happy World Communication Week

Friday November 7, 2008
Regardless of which candidate you supported before the election, you may find it inspiring to see the videos from around the world of people celebrating Barack Obama's presidency win. Seeing so many people come together in celebration can be a great reminder that, even when we come from different backgrounds and have different perspectives, we all share so much, that we are all more alike than we are different.

Coincidentally, all this happens in the middle of 'World Communication Week', which falls between November 1st and 7th this year. I'm bringing your attention to this holiday because healthy communication is very important for strong relationships, and relationships are so key to maintaining a low-stress lifestyle. Not only does social support carry many stress management benefits, but conflict in relationships carries such a toll that avoiding conflict through healthy communication can lead to a payoff in lower stress and even better health.

The following are resources to help you to better understand your communication style and learn healthy new ways of communicating in your close relationships, with co-workers and acquaintances, or perhaps even with others from around the world!
