Poll: Does Spirituality or Religion Help You Deal With Stress?

By February 26, 2007

Follow me on:

Many people find immense comfort in prayer, meditation, belief in God, and other spiritual forms of stress relief. However, many others feel abandoned by God or put spirituality on the back burner in times of great stress. Others have no beliefs or opinions in this regard at all. Where do you stand with spirituality and stress relief?

You can discuss your answers in the comments below or in the stress management forum, and read these stress and spirituality resources for more information on how spirituality impacts people's stress levels, health, and quality of life.

I think religion is very insightful to stress, in that i believe we are stressed out because we seek worldly possessions.
Those things only provide distraction and end up possessing us. Greed and wanting want you cant have.
Leave it all behind get rid of it its only holding you back i say
not just things but constraints false beliefs feelings of I NEED THIS JOB, BECAUSE IF I DONT HAVE A JOB I I ……
Whatever keep your job you hate to buy crap you dont need. I say lets evolve and put your life in the hands of god and believe he will take care of you. You may die yes, most definitely you may but least you died stress free not worrying about people ,places things.
I wish i could do those things but i am to weak, to stupid to realize that god has plans for every one of us if we would stop and think, are we as humanity going in the right direction ? obviously not because stress and mental disease caused form stress would not be the biggest problem humanity faced it would be how get out of glamor and illusion the real problems which are the current problems which is related to stress and disease.
Confusing no i just said the same thing twice are you stressed?

I actually abandoned my religion and turned to Atheism and I’ve felt much better ever since. I feel as if a great weight has been lifted off my shoulders, now that I no longer waste my time with pointless prayer, wondering ‘why have you allowed this to happen to me?’ or ‘why have you done this to me?’ I used to get depressed all the time, I’d cry myself to sleep while I waited on God to grant me a miracle.

Here’s the thing no religious person wants to acknowledge: if humans are the Children of God, then God is our father. If God is our father, then he is a neglectful, emotionally abusive father who takes all the credit when his children do well at something, but refuses to accept the blame when his children go to bed hungry at night because he failed to put food on the table.

If God were a human father, CPS would terminate his parental rights without a second thought.
